FAQs on our Food Smocks
What is a feeding smock?
A food smock is such a useful item of clothing. It protects your child’s clothes from spills and mess when they’re eating or creating, and this means less washing for you.
Are there different styles of feeding smocks available?
At Marmalade Lion, we have 2 styles of smocks; long sleeve which covers the whole arm and is perfect for the little ones just starting on solid foods, and sleeveless which is great for the older toddlers who have their hand-eye coordination better skilled and make a little less mess. Both can be used as feeding and art smocks.
How often should feeding smocks be washed?
Our high-quality TPU waterproof fabric at the front means spills are easily wiped away, again meaning less washing for you. But when your smock needs a deeper clean, you can easily pop it into the washing machine and line dry.
Are there any materials to avoid when purchasing a food smock?
We would recommend sticking with natural, breathable fabrics that won’t irritate the skin. Our TPU fabric is a great eco-friendly alternative to PVC that's highly durable and biodegradable.
Can food smocks be used during solid food introduction?
Food smocks are absolutely perfect (and almost a must) when introducing solid foods into your child’s diet. This is one of the messiest times in a child’s life when they get more food on themselves, you, the floor, wall, dog, cat, brother or sister than they get in their mouths. A good food smock will at least cover them from their spills.
Are feeding smocks easy to take on and off?
Our food smocks are designed to be practical and easy to put on and take off. The adjustable press stud closure makes it easy and quick; all the more important to avoid those tanties.
Can feeding smocks be worn by parents or only by the baby?
No. Well you can always put on an apron if you need to, but our food smocks are designed to fit baby and toddlers.
Are there any patterns or designs available for food smocks?
Our food smocks are available in many of our hand-illustrated designs including Cockatoo, Cuddly Faces, Little Creatures, Lady Elliot Island, Modern Native, Amongst the Ferns and more.
Can food smocks help with reducing mess during feeding time?
That’s their purpose! Using a smock will guarantee less mess on your child, which will in turn mean less washing for you.
