What is a mattress protector and what is its purpose?

A mattress protector, or bed pad, is like a sheet that protects the mattress against accidental spills, bacteria and some allergens, and they help keep your mattress clean and hygienic.

Are there different types of mattress protectors available?

There are multiple types of protectors on the market. Encasement, zip, elastic strap, fitted… and they’re made for different materials, like cotton, polyurethane, vinyl, latex, or wool. 

Ours is designed to wrap around the bed with wings that tuck in so it’s secure. 

How do I know if a mattress protector is the right size for my child’s bed?

Mattress protectors come in all shapes and sizes, from a cot to a king and most go by standard sizing.

Our bed pads are designed to wrap around the bed with its 110cm x 95cm size, as opposed to covering the whole bed. This way, you can position the pad where it needs to be and still have great coverage and protection. It also means you can easily take it wherever you need to go and use it on most beds your child may sleep on. 

How often should I change my child’s mattress protector?

Spills aside, you should wash your bed pad every couple of weeks to keep it clean and fresh. 

Are waterproof mattress protectors safe for my child’s skin?

Always seek a protector that’s made of natural materials and soft fabric, especially on the top side where the material may touch your child’s skin. 

Can a mattress protector help preserve the life of my child’s mattress?

Absolutely. As the bed pad absorbs sweat and stains and keeps dust, dust mites and bed bugs from settling into your mattress, having a mattress protector can extend the overall life of your bed by up to 10 years. 

What should I consider when choosing a mattress protector for my child?

Is the kid’s mattress protector waterproof? How easy is it to change? Is it machine washable? Could it cause an allergic reaction? You need to find what bed pad suits your needs best. 

If the mattress protector is comfortable, natural and non-allergenic, but isn’t waterproof, you may as well not have bothered. If a mattress protector doesn’t adequately protect against stains and accidents, it is of little use.

Are your mattress protectors machine washable?

Our mattress protectors are 100% machine washable. And thanks to our special Expect-A-Spill™ coating little messes can be easily wiped away so you don’t have to keep putting it in the machine to wash. 

Can mattress protectors be used on all beds?

Mattress protectors are a sensible idea on an adult’s bed, but they’re just about necessary for a child! Our bed pads can be used on any bed, which is great if your little one is sneaking into your bed, or you go away for the weekend, or they’re staying at Grandma and Grandpa’s.
